3 days in Mykonos

Updated: Dec 4, 2022

Mykonos is one of the most popular Cyclades islands and for good reason. The island is beautiful and it's the perfect place to party. It is full of magnificent places thatwill make you dream, each street and each house has its charms. Personally, Mykonos was my favorite place during my month-long trip to Europe. Prepare your camera.

What to do in Mykonos?

The island is highly popular for nightlife and for the popular district of Little Venice. These are indeed 2 must-do things, but Mykonos has so much more to offer.

Little Venice

Depending on your hotel location, take the bus to Fabrika. You will arrive directly at the Old Port and you can explore the blue and white streets of the city.

Start your visit by going to see the windmills and continue your walk to the Folklore Museum and the church of Paraportiani. Then, simply lose yourself in the alleys that inspire you and take pictures.

Party at Paradise Beach

It is the ideal place to party, all the big clubs of Mykonos are there. If you're more of an electro type, I recommend the Cavo Paradiso Club, entry costs €30 and includes a free drink. For those who prefer pop, hip-hop, afrobeat and other popular music, I recommend the Tropicana Beach Bar, personally, it's my favorite and admission is free.

Party boat

The Party Boats are very popular in Mykonos, you will have the opportunity to swim and party with a hundred of tourists. Alcohol is included, but not the meal in most tours, so bring some snacks.

Kitesurfing

Mykonos is an island of the Cyclades where the winds blow very hard in certain bays. It is therefore the perfect place to go kitesurfing or, quite simply, watch people do it.

Where to go for kitesurfing?

- Korfos beach with KITE MYKONOS Company

- Ftelia Beach

Scooter ride

Rent a scooter and discover the 4 corners of the island. The arid landscapes and clear blue water beaches will surprise you. It's also the best way to avoid the crowds in the center.

Enjoy a day at the beach

The best beaches to enjoy the sun without the strong winds are Ornos, Psarrou and Kalafati. Ornos beach is opposite to Korfos beach where you can kitesurf. You can therefore enjoy the two beaches which are less than 10 minutes away on foot.

Good plan for food and drinks

Where to eat?

- Souvlaki Story, $$, good food and good service, possible to take away.

- To Apomero, $$, very good, local cuisine

- Odos Araxame, $$

- Angelo's Restaurant, $$$, Italian

- Kastro’s Mykonos, $$$

- Mediterranean Mykonos, $$

Where to have a drink?

- 180° Sunset Bar, $$$, go for sunset and drinks only, don't book or eat there, very expensive and bad service. However, it is definitely worth going there for the sunset.

Sublime view of the sunset from the 180 degree sunsetbar restaurant

- Negrita, $$, perfect for sunset drinks and partying

Gorgeous entrance to Negrita restaurant, with pink flowers covering the white wall.

- The garden of Mykonos, $$$, incredible for the sunset

-Toy room Mykonos, $$$, to party

- Tropicana Beach Club, $$$, for partying, very popular

- Cavo Paradiso, $$$$, for partying, very popular

Grocery

- Ornos grocery store, many choices of products

- AB Market, you will find the essentials

- Mykonos Bakery, bread and pastries

How to get to Mykonos?

You have two options to get to the island of Mykonos, the first is to take a ferry, the ticket price varies between 30-80€ for one way. The trip from Piraeus to Mykonos takes between 3 and 5 hours and there are several departures daily, all year round. The other option is to take a flight. If you are not in Greece for long and want to save time, this is the best option. The flight takes less than an hour and if you don't have any luggage to check-in, you just have to arrive an hour early. If you do the math, it's 2 hours of transport with the wait at the airport instead of 5 hours by boat. In addition, plane tickets are often cheaper than ferries, for my part, I paid 35€ for a two-way flight with Volotea airline.

Once you arrive, you can take a bus to your hotel, buses run approximately every 30 minutes and cost 2€, while a taxi costs on average 25€.

Transportation on the island

It is very easy to get around by bus so no need to break your head. The price is 1.60€ per passage during the day and 2.20€ at night, to get to the airport, it's 2€. From the center, there are buses that go almost everywhere, some even run all night. So you can go to the club without stress and otherwise there are taxis. If you want to have more freedom and want to visit the island in-depth, a scooter is a great option and costs between 25-35€ per day. The price depends on the speed and strength of the scooter. I strongly advise you to rent one for a day in order to escape to the island and discover hidden places. You can also rent a 4x4 or a car, but with the traffic that there can be on the island, I strongly advise you to take a scooter, as you will save time and money.

Where to sleep?

Personally, I stayed in the Ornos area. In my opinion, it is a very good option, because the prices are more accessible than in the center of Mykonos, there is tranquility, but while having easy access to beaches and nightclubs. In addition, there are grocery stores and several good restaurants and cafes nearby. Finally, Little Venice can be reached by bus in less than 10 minutes.

Anixi Studio offers small studios with full kitchen. So you can cook for yourself. The staff is very welcoming. The hotel is owned by a small Greek family and they will meet all your needs. In addition, they have a magnificent swimming pool with a sea view.

Recommendation:

- Anixi Studio, $$, Ornos

- Adorno Beach Hotel, $$$$, Ornos

Be aware that living is expensive in Mykonos and accommodation fills up quickly, so it is best to book several months in advance.
